Housing life cycle

This week in Interior design we are learning about physical and physiological needs of housing. The physical needs are storage, safety, food, sleep and shelter. The psychological needs are fun, comfort, privacy and creativity. The life cycle is the stages of life. It starts as young adult, young families, launching and then empty nesters. The housing cycles relates to homes, because it's where you live through out your life. In young adult you are living with your parents most likely. You are finishing high school and planning college. The next step is young families. In this stage you have probably started working and are married, maybe starting a family soon. Launching is when kids start to leave home, and finally there is the empty nesters stage. Empty nesters have all their children moved out. Housing choices relate to the life cycle because if you are a young family you probably don't need a very large house, If eventually your family grows you may need to up size. When you are an empty nester you might want to down size.

A house at age 22 for me would probably be smaller. I want to go to college in California and then start a career there. This is a smaller home, but it has every thing I would need in it. It will have 2 or 3 bedrooms. I wouldn't need a lot of room for myself and maybe a boyfriend. If I did get married it would have an extra room if we wanted to start a family. I think it's realistic even though prices in California are expensive. My house would be located in San Jose, California.

At age 33 I will hopefully be married and have more money. Not only would I have my own money but more if I'm married. Together we would be able to upgrade into something bigger. I would assume at 33 I would have a family and want something bigger that a 2 or 3 bedroom house. This house would fit our needs because it has 4 bedrooms and all the essentials in a house. This house would be locates out side of San Jose, I wouldn't want to be right next to someone. I think it is realistic because I want to be a nurse and they make lots of money.

At age 42 I feel like I would be in about the same size house, but maybe because of a new job I will have moved. This house would still be about 4 bedrooms. I would want four rooms because I want about 2 kids, a room for myself and a guest room. This house will be in San Francisco. It's close to San Jose but a nice change.

At age 75 I think we would be ready to down size. I think that my children would be on their own by now. I would probably want a 2 or 3 bedroom house, big enough to have friends and family over, but not too much to clean. I would still like to be in California or maybe Florida. I lived in Florida and there is tons of stuff for old people to do. I think living in Florida would be more realistic because the price of stuff is much cheaper. I would like to live in Fort Myers, Florida again. I also think living in a house in Florida is realistic because most houses there are only 1 level. A one level house would be good incase I couldn't walk up stairs anymore!

Blog Review-

Today in Interior design we had to look at blogs and find things we liked. An Interior designer might have a blog to show their work or for others to see what they like.

The first blog I liked was Young House Love. The website was designed by DIY enthusiasts Sherry and John. They are authors, actors and parents but say they are not experts.  http://www.younghouselove.com/

The second blog I enjoyed was cococozy. This is an interior designer blog. The owner is named Cocoa and he loves anything that has to do with homes. This blog will give inspiration to anyone who wants to design their own home or just loves designing. http://cococozy.com/

The third blog that caught my interest was Dear Designers Blog. I liked the colors and pictures on the page. This blog started as a way to collect and share products. The owners name is Carole and she studied at KLC schoold of design. She is a member of the British Institute of Interior Design.
My favorite blog was cococoazy. It was my favorite because I enjoyed the colors and designs. There was a picture I really liked.

A few trends I like are black and white. I like black and white because then you can decorate with any colors you want! One other trend  I liked was from Web Urbanist. I liked how there were plants on the buildings.
