Roof shapes


1) Gamble roof- A gamble roof is a roof with two sloping sides and a gable at each end.
2) Gambrel roof- A gambrel roof is a roof with two sides, each which has a shallower slope above a steeper one. 

3)Hip roof- A roof with the ends inclined, as well as the sides. 

4)Saltbox roof- A building with a long pitched roof that slopes down to the back. 

5)Mansard roof- A mansard roof is a roof that has four sloping sides, each becomes steeper half way down.

6)Shed roof- A shed roof refers to a style of architect that makes use of planar angled roofs. 
 

                                                  HOUSING CHARACTERISTICS
1)Bay window- A window built outward to protect outward from an outside wall. 

2)Casement window- A window that is attached to its frame by one or more hinges.

3)Clapboard- A long flat piece of wood with edges  horizontally overlapping in series, used to cover the outer walls of buildings.

4)Dormer- A window that protects vertically from a sloping roof.

5)Eaves-The part of a roof the meets or overhangs the walls of a building.
6)Fanlight- A small semi circular or rectangular window over a door or another window.

7)Palladian window- A large window consisting of a central arched section flanked by two narrow rectangular sections.

8)Pediment-The triangular upper part of the front of a building in classic style, typically surmounting a  portico of columns.

9)Portico-A structure consisting of a roof supporting columns at regular intervals, Typically attatched to a porch on a building. 

10)Rafter-One of several internal beams extending from the eaves to the peak of a roof and constituting its framework.
 

Sidelights-A narrow window or piece of glass set alongside a door or larger window. 

12)Turret-A small tower on top of a large tower or at the corner of a building or wall, typically of a castle.
